Injured and Not Sure What Comes Next?
Whether it happened mid-game, at practice, or just during everyday movement, a sports injury has a way of stopping everything. You know something is wrong, but you're not sure how serious it is, how long recovery will take, or whether you can push through or need to rest.
Getting the wrong answer to those questions costs you time. Pushing too hard too soon leads to re-injury. Resting too long means losing the conditioning you worked hard to build. What you actually need is a clear picture of what happened, a plan to fix it, and a way to know when you're genuinely ready to return.
That's what we do at Camrose Physiotherapy.
What Is Sports Injury Rehabilitation?
Sports injury rehabilitation is a structured approach to recovering from acute and overuse injuries with one goal: getting back to full activity, at full capacity.
It's different from general physiotherapy in focus and pace. Rather than simply managing pain or improving function for daily life, sports rehab is built around return-to-sport milestones. That means tracking strength, range of motion, and performance metrics against your pre-injury baseline, not just how you feel.
Our team works with a wide range of athletes and active individuals, from competitive and recreational adult athletes to youth players across Camrose's minor league teams.
Our Approach to Getting You Back
Our physiotherapy team has the training, the equipment, and the experience to take you from the acute phase of an injury all the way through to full return to sport.
One thing that sets us apart in Camrose: we use the Vald dynamometer, a force-measuring device that gives us objective, side-to-side strength comparisons. Rather than relying on feel, we can tell you with data whether you're 70%, 85%, or 100% back to your baseline. It's the same technology used by professional sports organizations, and we're proud to have it available right here in Camrose.
In-clinic we have squat racks, free weights, and full rehabilitation equipment, so your strength training and functional progressions happen here, under supervision, not just as homework.
Our physiotherapists, including Ryan Peters, BSc Kin, MSc PT, Shelby Kirk, BSc Kin, MSc PT, Dan Gillespie, MScPT, PhD, Jana Evenson, BSc PT, and Jessica Bosse, BSc Kin, MPT, each bring a strong foundation in exercise-based rehabilitation and individualized care. We also work closely with local teams including the Augustana Vikings and the Camrose Kodiaks.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Step 1: Assessment
Step 2: Treatment and Progressive Rehab
Step 3: Return-to-Sport Testing
What Patients Notice After Sports Rehab
Faster recovery timelines when treatment starts early. The sooner you're assessed, the sooner we can distinguish what needs rest from what needs active rehab.
Confidence going back. Knowing your strength and movement have been objectively tested makes returning to sport feel different. Less hesitation, less fear of re-injury.
A plan that matches your goals. Whether you're a competitive athlete, a weekend recreational player, or someone who just wants to get back to hiking and the gym, your program is built around what return to activity means for you specifically.
Physiotherapy
Our physiotherapists provide one-on-one, evidence-based assessment to identify the root cause of your symptoms. This will include a conversation about your current concerns, movement testing, strength evaluation and further testing as needed. Treatment will consist of an agreed upon plan consisting of active rehabilitation that may include exercise prescription, hands on techaniques (such as joint mobilizations, soft tissue mobilization, stretching, trigger point release etc), the use of evidence based modalities (such as TENS, taping, dry needling, cryotherapy etc) and education to help support your recovery.
Frequently Asked Questions About Sports Injury Rehab in Camrose
No referral is needed. You can book directly with our team. Most insurance plans also cover physiotherapy without a referral, though it's worth confirming your specific plan.
As soon as possible. Early assessment helps rule out serious injury, reduces the risk of compensating in ways that cause secondary problems, and gets your recovery moving in the right direction from day one.
It depends on the injury, your baseline fitness, and your goals. Your physiotherapist will give you a realistic estimate after your initial assessment. Most sport-related injuries follow a predictable recovery arc once the plan is in place.
It's a force-measurement device that lets us compare strength output between your injured and uninjured sides with precision. It gives you and your physiotherapist an objective, data-driven target for return to sport rather than relying on feel alone. We're the only clinic in Camrose with this technology.
Yes. We see athletes across all ages and levels, including youth players from Camrose's minor league sports programs.
Physiotherapy is covered under most extended health plans. We direct bill most major insurance providers. If your injury resulted from a workplace incident, WCB coverage may also apply.
